All surrenders are approached on a case-by-case basis. Animal shelters are regularly overcrowded and it can sometimes take weeks to get a surrender appointment, as space is often limited. Fees help us care for the pet until they get adopted and changes depending on the level of care they will need until they get adopted. The minimum fee per animal is $60 for Dunn County residents & $100 for out of county residents. The fee increases depending on the level of care the animal needs.

All surrenders are subject to a cursory medical/ behavioral exam upon arrival. If either reveal information that was not disclosed, we may be unable to proceed with the surrender or may need to charge more to cover additional care expenses.

The DCHS does not euthanize an animal unless they are a danger to themselves, others, or have a terminal disease or ailment.
