“PETS FOR SENIORS AND VETS”
The “Pets for Seniors and Vets” adoption program. This program was developed to promote pet ownership among Senior Citizens (age 65+) and to recognize the sacrifices of American Veterans.
Research indicates that the most serious illness that senior citizens encounter is loneliness. Pets revitalize seniors by easing the loss of a loved one, offering affection and unconditional love, reducing depression, and enhancing social
opportunities. Pets lower blood pressure and pulse rates thus reducing frequency of doctor visits. Versus non-pet owners, senior with pets become more active. They take better care of themselves and feel a sense of need.
In recognition of those who sacrificed so much to ensure American freedom, the adoption program is also inclusive of veterans of the United States armed forces. Regardless of age, any former member of the U.S. military having served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard (including reservists and members of the National Guard) qualify for the program.
The Program provides one annual $50 cat or dog adoption discount, which cannot be combined with any other animal adoption promotion or discount.
EXCEPTION: Individuals, including dishonorably discharged veterans, convicted of a felony, sexual offense of any kind and/or any type of animal mistreatment, abuse, neglect, or cruelty are not eligible to partake in the “Pets for Seniors and Vets” adoption program.
